Chamberlain openers are all over San Diego, and they share a lot of parts and know-how with LiftMaster. Most repairs are a part I already carry.

Common Chamberlain problems
What it's doing, and what it usually turns out to be.Motor runs but the door doesn't move
A stripped drive gear or a trolley that's come apart from the chain or belt.
Light flashes and the door won't close
The safety sensors are out of line, dirty or not getting power. The most common call by far.
Remotes won't pair
The remote has to match the opener's system. The color of the learn button tells me which remote it takes.
Beeping after a power outage
Many Chamberlain units with battery backup beep when the battery is low or worn out.
myQ app won't connect
Usually Wi-Fi reach in the garage or a reset needed after a router change.
Repair or replace?
Chamberlain and LiftMaster are made by the same company, Chamberlain Group, and a lot of the parts and systems overlap. That's good news for repairs: gears, sensors, trolleys and many boards are easy to get. If your Chamberlain is under roughly twelve years old and the fault is one of those, I repair it.
If the motor is worn out, the board is discontinued, or the unit is so old it has no safety sensors, I'll recommend replacing it. When I replace, I install a LiftMaster chain or belt drive with battery backup, which California requires on new residential openers. In many cases your existing remotes and car buttons can be programmed to it.
What I check first
- 1
Diagnose
I pull the release and lift the door by hand first. If it's heavy, the springs are the problem. Then the gear, trolley, sensors, limits, board and remotes.
- 2
Explain
I show you the part that failed, tell you whether repairing makes sense for the age of your Chamberlain, and give you the price before I start.
- 3
Repair
Part from the truck, limits and force reset, sensors aligned, remotes and myQ set up, then a full test with the door.

Chamberlain questions
Is Chamberlain the same as LiftMaster?
Same company, different lines. Chamberlain Group makes both. Chamberlain is the line sold in stores for homeowners, and LiftMaster is the line sold through installers. Many parts and remote systems overlap, which makes repairs easier.
Why won't my new remote work with my Chamberlain?
Remotes have to match the opener's code system. Look at the learn button on the motor unit. Its color tells you which remotes are compatible. I carry the common ones and can program them on the spot.
My Chamberlain keeps beeping. What does that mean?
On units with battery backup, beeping usually means the battery is low or at the end of its life. Replacing the battery fixes it. Don't just unplug it, or you'll lose the backup when the power goes out.
Can you set up myQ?
Yes. If your Wi-Fi reaches the garage, I'll get it connected before I leave. If it doesn't, I'll tell you what would help.
Do you work for Chamberlain?
No. I'm independent, and I won't claim a title I don't hold. I'm a licensed contractor (CSLB #1136749) who repairs Chamberlain openers and installs LiftMaster when a replacement makes sense.
Faster by phone. This works too.
