Garage doors in San Carlos

San Carlos was built as a tract-home suburb. It was already a spread of tract houses by 1960, and most homes went up in the 1960s and 70s: single-story ranch houses, many around 900 to 1,300 square feet. For garage door repair in San Carlos, call (619) 930-7869. It's 15 to 20 minutes from my base in Normal Heights.

The garages match that era. Plenty were built as single-car garages, some with a breezeway between the garage and the house, and over the years many were widened, converted or fitted with newer doors. So what's in your opening could be original, a replacement or a mix of both.

Cowles Mountain is at the north end, Mission Trails Regional Park borders the neighborhood and Lake Murray sits to the south. It's well inland, so summer afternoons run warmer than near the coast. San Carlos is ZIP 92119.

What I check first

  1. 1

    Diagnose

I look at the whole door, not just the broken part: springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track and the opener. On a spring job I measure the old spring: wire size, length, inside diameter and wind.

  2. 2

    Explain

I show you what broke and why, then give you the price before I touch anything. Say no and I pack up. No trip fee, no pressure.

  3. 3

    Repair

A spring sized to your door, from the truck. I balance the door, run it through full cycles, reset the opener's force limits and lube the moving parts before I leave.

Why San Carlos doors wear out

Heat. Inland garages warm up through the afternoon and cool off at night, and the steel in the springs goes through that swing all summer. Grease dries out faster too, so rollers and hinges start to squeal and drag.

Daily use is the other half. In a ranch house, the garage is often how everyone comes and goes. Four or five trips a day for years adds up, and springs are rated in cycles, not birthdays.

Spring snapped? I can usually come today or tomorrow.

San Carlos questions

My San Carlos garage was widened from a single to a double. Does that matter?

It can. A wider door is heavier, and if the springs and opener weren't upsized with it, they wear out fast. I'll check that they match the door you have now.

Does the inland heat really affect my door?

Yes. It dries out lubricant and adds stress to the springs. A tune-up with fresh lube once a year helps a lot.

Do I need a battery backup on my opener?

California has required it on newly installed openers since 2019. If your old one still works, you don't have to replace it, but a new LiftMaster comes with backup built in.

How long does it take you to get to San Carlos?

Fifteen to twenty minutes from Normal Heights. Same-day or next-day service.
