How far, how fast
I'm based in Normal Heights, so North County is 30 to 45 minutes away depending on traffic: up the 15 to Escondido, or up the 5 to Oceanside. I group North County jobs into my afternoon windows, noon and later, and I call before I leave so you're not stuck waiting at home all day.
Much of inland North County is newer housing: tract neighborhoods from the 1970s onward with attached two-car garages, steel sectional doors and builder-grade openers. That hardware tends to wear out together somewhere past the ten-year mark: springs, rollers and opener gears. I carry all of it, so a second trip is rare.
Summers inland run hot, much hotter than the coast. Heat is hard on springs and on the plastic gears inside older openers, which is why so many North County calls are one or the other.
