LiftMaster garage door opener repair in San Diego
LiftMaster is what I install and what I see most in San Diego garages. Most repairs come down to the same handful of parts, and I carry them.

Common LiftMaster problems
What it's doing, and what it usually is.Hums but the door doesn't move
Stripped drive gear or a broken trolley. Common on chain-drive units past ten years.
Reverses halfway or won't close
Travel limits or force settings drifted, or the door is binding and the opener is protecting itself.
Light blinks, door won't close
Safety sensors out of line, dirty, or a pinched wire. On many LiftMaster units, ten blinks points straight at the sensors.
Remote or keypad stopped working
A battery, a full memory, or a logic board that lost its programming. Usually a quick fix.
Much louder than it used to be
Worn sprocket, a dry rail, or a door that's out of balance making the motor work too hard.
Repair or replace?
My rule: if the unit is under about twelve years old and the fix is a gear, sensor, trolley or board, repair it. If the motor is tired, the parts are discontinued, or it's an old unit with no safety sensors at all, replace it. I'll tell you which before I quote, and I'll give you both prices if it's close.
When I replace, I install a LiftMaster chain or belt drive with battery backup, which California has required on new residential openers since 2019, and Wi-Fi if you want to check the door from your phone. Most installs take about two hours, and the old unit leaves with me.
What I check first
- 1
Diagnose
I pull the release and lift the door by hand first. If the door is heavy or out of balance, that's the real problem, not the motor. Then the gear, sensors, limits and board.
- 2
Explain
I show you the worn part, tell you whether a repair makes sense for the age of the unit, and give you the price before I start.
- 3
Repair
Part from the truck, limits and force reset, sensors aligned, remotes and keypad programmed, then a full test with the door.

A recent LiftMaster install
Belt drive for the noise, battery backup so the door still opens in an outage, and the app set up before I left.
"I had an entire motor replaced and a new one installed so the garage door would lift and open without loud noise."
Opener acting up? I can usually come today or tomorrow.

LiftMaster questions
Are you a LiftMaster dealer?
I install LiftMaster and I know the line well. I won't claim any title I don't hold. I'm a licensed contractor (CSLB #1136749), and that's what protects you.
Can you fix a LiftMaster that's 15 years old?
Often, yes, if it's a gear or a sensor. If the logic board is gone and the part is discontinued, I'll tell you and we'll talk about replacing it.
Do you also work on Chamberlain, Genie and Craftsman?
Yes. Chamberlain and many Craftsman openers come from the same family as LiftMaster. Genie is different hardware, and I work on it too.
Can you set up the app?
Yes, on the same visit. If your Wi-Fi reaches the garage, you'll have it working before I leave.
Do new openers have to have battery backup?
In California, yes. Since July 2019, new residential openers have to include a battery backup so the door still works in a power outage. Every LiftMaster I install has one.
My keypad works but the remote doesn't. What's wrong?
Usually a dead battery in the remote, or the opener's memory got cleared. Both are quick fixes. If the remote is very old, it may not work with a newer logic board, and I can program a new one.
Faster by phone. This works too.
