Garage doors in Escondido

Escondido is an old town that grew fast late. The Old Escondido Historic District, a few blocks south of Grand Avenue, is mostly single-family homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s in Victorian and Craftsman styles. Out from there, the city went from about 6,500 people in 1950 to over 100,000 by 1990, and since the 1970s most of its orchard land has turned into housing developments. So most garage door repair calls in Escondido are on tract homes with attached two-car garages, steel sectional doors and the opener the builder put in.

It's also inland and hot. August afternoons average close to 90 degrees, well above the coast, and the city hit 115 in September 2020. A closed garage gets hotter than that.

I'm 30 to 45 minutes away, so I stock the truck before I leave and call (619) 930-7869 back with a real window. Escondido is ZIP 92025, 92026, 92027 and 92029.

What I check first

  1. 1

    Diagnose

I look at the whole door, not just the broken part: springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track and the opener. On a spring job I measure the old spring: wire size, length, inside diameter and wind.

  2. 2

    Explain

I show you what broke and why, then give you the price before I touch anything. Say no and I pack up. No trip fee, no pressure.

  3. 3

    Repair

A spring sized to your door, from the truck. I balance the door, run it through full cycles, reset the opener's force limits and lube the moving parts before I leave.

Why Escondido doors wear out

Heat is the big one. A garage that bakes all afternoon and cools off overnight puts springs through a daily swing, and the plastic drive gear inside a lot of older openers gets soft and brittle in that heat until the teeth shear off. Rollers and weatherstrip dry out and crack too.

The other is age arriving all at once. Neighborhoods built in the same few years got the same doors, springs and openers, and they tend to give out in the same stretch. If the house next door just had a spring go, yours is probably on the same clock. The older downtown homes are a different story: wood doors, sometimes detached garages, and hardware that has been patched more than once.

Spring snapped? I can usually come today or tomorrow.

Escondido questions

Is Escondido too far for you to come out?

No. It's 30 to 45 minutes up the 15 from Normal Heights. I group Escondido jobs into my afternoon windows, and there's still no trip fee.

Do you work on the older homes in Old Escondido?

Yes. Wood doors, older springs, garages that were never built for an opener. I'll look at what's there before I suggest anything new.

My opener died in the middle of summer. Is that a coincidence?

Probably not. Heat wears out the plastic gear in a lot of older openers. Often I can replace the gear and sprocket instead of the whole unit.

How fast can you get to Escondido?

Usually the next day, in an afternoon window. If you call early and I'm already headed north that day, sometimes the same day.

Do you speak Spanish?

Sí. Se habla español. Call and talk to me directly.
