Broken spring in Escondido?

A spring that breaks usually announces itself with a loud crack from the garage, sometimes in the middle of the night. After that the door feels like it weighs a ton, or the opener lifts it a few inches and stops. For garage door spring repair in Escondido, call (619) 930-7869. Don't try to lift the door by hand or run the opener again.

I'll ask how wide the door is, whether the spring sits above the door or along the tracks, and what the door's made of. That tells me what to load before the drive north.

What I check first

  1. 1

    Diagnose

I look at the whole door, not just the broken part: springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track and the opener. On a spring job I measure the old spring: wire size, length, inside diameter and wind.

  2. 2

    Explain

I show you what broke and why, then give you the price before I touch anything. Say no and I pack up. No trip fee, no pressure.

  3. 3

    Repair

A spring sized to your door, from the truck. I balance the door, run it through full cycles, reset the opener's force limits and lube the moving parts before I leave.

What wears springs out in Escondido

A spring is a coil of steel wound tight, and it's rated for a certain number of open-close cycles. Hot days and cool nights work that steel in the background on top of the cycles. Escondido runs hot from July through September and set a record of 115 degrees in 2020, so a west-facing garage there goes through more of that than one near the coast.

Much of Escondido was built in a burst from the 1970s through the 90s, and plenty of tract doors from that era run a single torsion spring across a two-car door. One spring carrying the whole door wears faster, and when it breaks there's no backup. When I replace it, I'll often recommend a two-spring setup that shares the load.

Families use the garage as the front door, too. Four or five trips a day adds up to a lot of cycles over the years, and that's what eventually snaps a spring.

Two springs instead of one

A two-car door converted from one torsion spring to two. Each spring does half the work, and it lasts longer for it.

Spring snapped? I can usually come today or tomorrow.

Escondido spring questions

Why do springs seem to break more out in Escondido?

Heat and use. A hot garage fatigues the steel, and a busy household adds cycles. A spring rated for 10,000 cycles goes faster when it's opened six times a day.

My two-car door only has one spring. Is that normal?

It's common in tract homes, but it's not ideal. Two springs share the load and the door stays balanced if one goes.

Can I get the door open to get my car out?

Not safely with a broken spring. The door is full weight with nothing helping. Leave it down and call me; I'll tell you how soon I can get there.

Do you replace springs the same day in Escondido?

Sometimes, if I'm already heading north that afternoon. Usually it's the next day, in an afternoon window.
