Opener acting up in El Cajon?
Door reverses for no reason, light blinks and nothing happens, remote stopped working after a battery swap? Call (619) 930-7869 for garage door opener repair in El Cajon. I'm 15 to 25 minutes away, and I'll call you back within the hour.
I start with the simple, likely stuff: the safety sensors, the wall button wiring, the remote's programming. Most El Cajon opener calls end there. If the motor or board is the problem, I'll show you and give you both a repair and a replacement price.
What I check first
- 1
Diagnose
I pull the release and lift the door by hand. If it's heavy or drifts, the springs come first. Then the gear, trolley, sensors, limits, board, outlet and remotes, in that order.
- 2
Explain
I show you the part that failed, tell you whether repairing it makes sense for the age of your unit, and give you the price before I start. If it's close, you get both prices.
- 3
Repair
Part from the truck, limits and force reset, sensors aligned, remotes and keypad programmed, then I run the door with you watching and test the auto-reverse.
Why El Cajon openers wear out
The valley's ranch homes from the 1950s and 60s weren't built with openers. Most were added later, sometimes more than once, and I still find units old enough that they were made before 1993, when federal rules started requiring a reversing sensor or safety edge. An opener without one will close on a bike, a pet or a kid. That's the one case where I'll push you to replace instead of repair.
Summer heat is the other half. El Cajon's hottest days top 100 degrees, and a garage in the afternoon sun gets hotter. Sensors drift out of alignment as brackets expand, plastic gears soften, and remote batteries die fast. Many sensor calls are just a bent bracket or a lens covered in dust.
If you do go new, I'll set you up with a keypad outside, which helps kids and anyone who forgets their keys, and a battery backup, which California has required on new openers since 2019.

Sensors lined up again
Re-aimed photo eyes on a new bracket. The green light on both means the door will reverse if anything breaks the beam.
Spring snapped? I can usually come today or tomorrow.

"I had an entire motor replaced and a new one installed so the garage door would lift and open without loud noise."
El Cajon opener questions
My door goes down and immediately comes back up. What's wrong?
Nine times out of ten it's the safety sensors near the floor: dirty, bumped or knocked out of line. That's a quick fix.
How do I know if my opener is too old to keep?
If it has no safety sensors at all, it was likely made before 1993. I'd replace that one even if it still runs.
Can you put a keypad outside my garage?
Yes. Most openers from the last 25 years take a wireless keypad. I'll program it on the spot.
Does the heat out here hurt openers?
It does. Plastic gears, circuit boards and remote batteries all age faster in a hot El Cajon garage. A tune-up once a year helps.
Faster by phone. This works too.
