Broken spring in Chula Vista?

If the door won't budge, there's a gap in the spring above it, or the opener groans and quits, call (619) 930-7869 for garage door spring repair in Chula Vista. Leave the door where it is and stay clear of the springs and cables. I'm 15 to 25 minutes down the 805.

A quick photo of the spring helps me bring the right size. If you can't get a clear shot, that's fine; I measure on site.

What I check first

  1. 1

    Diagnose

I look at the whole door, not just the broken part: springs, cables, drums, rollers, hinges, track and the opener. On a spring job I measure the old spring: wire size, length, inside diameter and wind.

  2. 2

    Explain

I show you what broke and why, then give you the price before I touch anything. Say no and I pack up. No trip fee, no pressure.

  3. 3

    Repair

A spring sized to your door, from the truck. I balance the door, run it through full cycles, reset the opener's force limits and lube the moving parts before I leave.

Salt air and builder springs

Near the bay on the west side, rust is what kills springs. Salt in the air coats the coils, pits the steel and makes the spring brittle, so it often snaps well before its rated cycles. Cables near the bottom brackets fray from the same thing. On those homes I use springs with a protective coating and replace the cables if they're rusted.

Out east, in Eastlake, Rancho del Rey and Otay Ranch, homes went up from the late 1980s onward. Builders usually put in springs that were just enough for the door, and decades of daily use have worn many of them out. When they go, I size the replacement to the door's actual weight and use a better-quality spring than the builder did, so it isn't working at its limit from day one.

Either way, I check the cables, drums and bearings while the tension is off. Replacing a worn one now beats a second visit after it fails.

"I had an entire motor replaced and a new one installed so the garage door would lift and open without loud noise."

Chula Vista spring questions

My springs are rusty but not broken. Should I replace them?

If the coils are pitted, they're weaker than they look. I'll look and give you an honest call. Don't wire-brush or adjust them yourself.

Do you work in Eastlake and Otay Ranch?

Yes. All of Chula Vista, east and west. Most Eastlake and Otay Ranch doors are standard sizes, and I carry the springs for them.

Will new springs be better than the builder's?

I use better-quality springs and size them to your door's actual weight instead of just enough. Daily use still wears any spring out, but they aren't the bare minimum.

Does a spring repair need HOA approval?

No. It's a repair, not a change to how the house looks. Only a new door usually goes through the HOA.
