Garage door opener repair in North Park
A short hop from my base. Openers on alley garages, rebuilt garages and garages that now share a wall with an ADU. Quiet is usually the goal.

North Park opener acting up?
The door reverses halfway down, the remote only works from right outside, or the motor runs and the door doesn't move. For garage door opener repair in North Park, call me at (619) 930-7869. Most of these are a sensor, a remote or a worn gear, and I'll find out which before I quote anything.
North Park has a lot of garages being converted into ADUs or rebuilt, and the opener on those was often put in fast. I see openers hung off the wrong framing, sensors mounted too high to catch a pet, and chain drives bolted right under someone's bedroom. Those are worth fixing properly.
What I check first
- 1
Diagnose
I pull the release and lift the door by hand. If it's heavy or drifts, the springs come first. Then the gear, trolley, sensors, limits, board, outlet and remotes, in that order.
- 2
Explain
I show you the part that failed, tell you whether repairing it makes sense for the age of your unit, and give you the price before I start. If it's close, you get both prices.
- 3
Repair
Part from the truck, limits and force reset, sensors aligned, remotes and keypad programmed, then I run the door with you watching and test the auto-reverse.
Why North Park openers fail
Noise is the big complaint. If an ADU or a bedroom shares a wall or ceiling with the garage, an old chain drive rattles the whole place. A belt-drive LiftMaster runs quietly, and with new nylon rollers on the door, it's often the difference between a tenant who complains and one who doesn't.
Range is another. Alley garages behind a house can be far from where you press the button, and older remotes struggle through walls. A newer opener, a fresh remote or a keypad on the alley side usually solves it.
And old wood doors are hard on openers. If the door is heavy because the spring is weak, the opener ends up doing the lifting, and the gear strips. I check the spring every time.

What a good opener install looks like
Belt drive mounted to solid framing, sensors a few inches off the floor, the door reversing when it touches something, and nothing rattling over the bed next door.
Spring snapped? I can usually come today or tomorrow.

North Park opener questions
There's an ADU above our garage. What's the quietest opener?
A belt-drive LiftMaster. It's far quieter than a chain drive. Add nylon rollers and isolation on the mount and it's hard to hear upstairs.
My remote only works when I'm right outside the alley door. Why?
Older openers have weak receivers and old remotes lose range. A new remote or a keypad on the outside often fixes it. If not, it's the opener's board.
Our garage was rebuilt and the door keeps reversing. Can you fix it?
Usually it's the sensors: misaligned, mounted too high or wired loosely. I'll realign and test them.
Can you put a battery backup on my old opener?
Some openers accept one and some don't. If yours can't, any new LiftMaster I install comes with a battery, as California has required since 2019.
Faster by phone. This works too.
